Three UWB anchors to the FiRa standard and a charging case — that is all it takes: place the anchors in the room, enter their positions in the app, and a UWB-capable smartphone continuously determines its position in the plane. No gateway, no server, no cabling.
Each anchor is a quad tag with the radino40 DW3000: Qorvo’s DW3000 UWB chip for ranging and Nordic’s nRF52840 microcontroller with Bluetooth Low Energy for setting up the connection to the phone. The FiRa firmware is preloaded. The phone finds the anchors via Bluetooth, negotiates the FiRa parameters itself and then measures the distance to every anchor to within about 10 cm.
The set can be extended to up to ten anchors. The charging case has ten slots — so it holds the fully expanded system and charges all anchors at once.
