The radino40 DW3000 combines an nRF52840 microcontroller from Nordic Semiconductor with the DW3000 radio chip from Qorvo in the compact radino40 form factor. The Qorvo DW3000 device is an Ultra-Wideband (UWB) transceiver, fully IEEE 802.15.4-2015 / 802.15.4z compliant, and offers an accuracy of up to 10cm. The UWB data rate is up to 6.8Mbps. It is designed for channels 5 and 9 of the UWB band and is fully aligned with the FiRa standard.
Locating with the smartphone – out of the box: With our FiRa™ demo firmware, the radino40 DW3000 measures distances directly to UWB-capable smartphones – iPhone via Apple Nearby Interaction (U1/U2 chip), Android (12+, FiRa-capable UWB chip, including current Samsung Galaxy models) via our documented BLE protocol. The anchors require no configuration at all. With three anchors, our Android reference app delivers a live filtered 2D position – demo description and app download in the wiki. For large-scale RTLS installations with many tags we implement TDoA-based systems as project business – please contact us.
Ready to try: the FiRa set contains three anchors with the radino40 DW3000 in a quad housing, plus charging case, charger and cable — place the anchors, enter their positions in the app, and the smartphone knows where it is. The nRF52840 with 32-bit ARM® Cortex®-M4 CPU with FPU, 64 MHz clock frequency, 1MB Flash, 256kB RAM provides optimal computing performance and optimal low-power functionality. In addition, it offers its own 2.4GHz radio interface with numerous supported radio standards.
The radino40 DW3000 provides optimal connection of the UWB radio chip at the lowest sleep current (<2.3µA with RTC), making it the best choice for long-lived, battery-powered RTLS systems.
